Laboratoire de Barbara Winsor

Cytosquelette d'actine et trafic intracellulaire

Barbara Ann Townsend Winsor (1947-2011), our friend and colleague died on the 29th of September 2011 after a prolonged illness. She had just returned from the Jacques Monod conference "Molecular basis for membrane remodelling and organization" which she co-organized with Harvey Mc Mahon (Cambridge, UK).

Barbara did her studies in Genetics at McGill University, Montréal, she later moved to Strasbourg, where she holded various positions before joining the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology, UMR7156 at Strasbourg University. Barbara's group focussed on the actin cytoskeleton and intracellular trafficking. Barbara made a major contribution to the development of the actin field by identifying the role of Arp2/3 and WASP in yeast endocytosis. Latterly she became interested in the function of BAR superfamily proteins in yeast.

Despite her disease, she was always present in the laboratory and dedicated to research and to her students. She faced her cancer and fighted against it with courage and energy. She was and will remain an inspiration and a model for all of us.
